It was that time of year again when an enthusiastic group of MCCCC educators participated in Melbourne City Mission’s Sleep at the G. Sleep at the G is now in its seventh year and raises much needed funds for Melbourne City Mission, who support more than 5,000 people experiencing homelessness a week. This year, Melbourne City Mission was also hoping to raise funds to support their newly opened crisis accommodation centre for at-risk young people, Frontyard.
FRENCH LANGUAGE PROGRAM
In 2019, MCCCC introduced French as part of the State Government’s ‘Learn Languages at Kinder’ program. According to the Department of Education and Training, learning a language other than English improves overall literacy and understanding of how language in general works.

Additionally, learning languages inspires children to take an interest in other cultures and can lead to strengthened cognitive flexibility and brain development.
MCCCC’s French educators embed French language learning through exploration, problem solving, creating and constructing ideas through play, art,
music, stories, the discussion and enactment of French cultural traditions etc.
French is woven into the program every day at Dunstan with a particular kindergarten focus on Monday and Friday. French speaking educators are located in the nursery through to four-year-old kindergarten. Tinning and Mitchell also have a French component on Wednesdays and Thursdays. A Bilingual Support Officer oversees communication between the French team, ensuring consistency and quality.
MCCCC’s commitment to the core learning outcomes of a bilingual program is robust and we will continue to grow and refine this wonderful initiative as we develop a model that offers our children a fun and interesting bilingual perspective through age and language-appropriate learning.
In 2019, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Mr James Merlino MP, visited MCCCC to see our French Language kinder program in action.
Je vous remercie Mr Merlino for dropping in to say Bonjour! Click here to view a short clip of that visit.
